So you’ve spent thousands of AED on a brand-new sofa and it’s now looking older than it’s supposed to? And you may even see some allergies acting from your dusty sofa. Well, as a professional sofa cleaning company in Dubai, we hear this a lot.

Sofas are probably the only place in your home that everyone sits on, be it for watching TV, scrolling on your phone, and sometimes, even for snacking. Over time the fiber, leather, or velvet material in your sofa gets a coating of grease and dust that may seem impossible to clean.
But what makes Ecofix the best cleaning company in Dubai is that we use eco-friendly cleaning solutions and in this blog, we’re gonna tell you how you can do the same to clean your sofa like a pro.
How to clean sofa at home?
For the sake of simplicity, we’re gonna split the sofa cleaning process into three steps:
- Gather cleaning supplies and plan based on your sofa material
- The actual cleaning process for your sofa material
- How to maintain the sofa after a deep clean.
Step 1: Sofa material and cleaning supplies
- If your sofa has a removable cushion cover, zip it off and put it in the washing machine.
- If you see any loose debris, vacuum them now.
- Your sofa might be fabric, leather, velvet, or even microfibre, but they all come with some tags or labels that give you a cleaning code.
W: You can use water for cleaning
WS: You can use a mild detergent and steam vacuum to clean
X: You should not use water on this one, just vacuum
S: You can absolutely clean with dry cleaner detergent
Before you proceed further, remember to keep these codes in mind.
Now, collect the following materials based on your sofa material:
Cleaning supply needed for fabric sofa

- Dishwashing liquid
- Vinegar
- Clean cloths
- Spray bottle

Step 2: Simple method to clean sofa at home
How to clean a fabric sofa?
- Since it is fabric, you can start by thoroughly vacuuming the sofa. All embedded dust will be sucked out.
- Now sprinkle the entire sofa with baking soda. Let it rest for 20 minutes.
- In the meantime, take 1 tablespoon each of dishwashing liquid and vinegar, and mix them in 1 cup of warm water. Add 1 tablespoon baking soda and pour the mixture into a spray bottle.
- Spray this solution on a cloth and wipe the entire sofa. Or you can spray directly on stains if there are too many. And then press it with a cloth.
How to clean a leather sofa?
Leather comes in a variety of shades and quality levels. The following methods are mild, but check if your sofa company has mentioned some specialized cleaning methods.
- Since leather is water-proof, it’s easy to wipe it. But stains are a different deal. First, take a soft damp cloth and wipe the entire sofa. You’ll be surprised to see the amount of wet dust.
- Dry the sofa with a microfiber cloth. Then take a small bucket and mix equal parts of vinegar and water.
- Dampen the microfiber cloth in this solution and wipe the sofa again, you’ll see the stains disappearing.
How to clean a microfiber sofa?
Isopropyl alcohol with a 70% concentration works best in removing stains from microfiber sofas. It’s also called rubbing alcohol. You can patch-test it first in case you’re worried about it damaging the color of your sofa.
- Start by spraying the rubbing alcohol on small sections of the sofa. Then scrub it with a white colored sponge, a colored one may cause the color to spread.
- When it dries, brush the sofa with a dry scrub brush in a circular motion.
- Now, do the same steps, but with distilled water instead of rubbing alcohol. Dry the sofa before you use it.
How to clean a velvet sofa?
- If you have stains, use a damp cloth to blot the stain. Do not rub as it may damage the soft fabric.
- Mix some mild dish soap with water. Dampen a cloth with this solution and gently wipe the entire velvet soda. Rinse the cloth often if your sofa is too dirty.
- Use a thick clean cloth to press dry the sofa. Let the sofa dry.
- After it dried, use a soft large brush to restore the velvet’s natural texture.
Step 3: What to do after cleaning the sofa?
Remove odors from the sofa
Everything up until now will remove most odors, but if it still has some lingering smell, sprinkle some more baking powder and vacuum it, or dry your sofa in the Dubai Sun for a good whole day.
Put back the sofa covers
In case you don’t have sofa covers, we recommend you buy two of them so you will always have one clean sofa cover.
